Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a chronic, autoimmune skin condition characterised by white patches caused by the gradual loss of melanocytes, the cells responsible for pigmentation. It can appear at any age and affects people of all ethnic backgrounds. Although it is neither contagious nor dangerous, its cosmetic and psychological impact can be significant. Treatments are now available to slow its progression and encourage repigmentation.
